Public Market Center Masks Up

This week, the Special Lady and I celebrate the fifth year of venturing this life parallel. Fortunately, the rain has subsided, and the Sun is out. The air calls for cozy layers promising to keep our bones warm until we land beneath the sheets and comforters once the shop is finished. As difficult as the current health crisis is, Lily (my love) and I snap our masks on and socially distance our way into properly dancing to the tune of our sweet anniversary. Dating this long and so far apart, she in Vancouver, CA and I in the Emerald City of Seattle, we have become professionals at making the best of our time.

The Pike Place Market rumbles with a similar bubble of folks, retaining its charm with the same resounding aroma of wildly affordable bouquets of flowers. Our visit today has a similar focus compared to past wanderings around the exalting rabble of the tented boulevard, choosing to follow the path of the scents or the eclectic pallet of color to guide us to a purchase. Today, an added element; the heart. Having to celebrate our fifth early instead of the actual date of our commitment, we’ve both found ourselves caught without gift or plan for the evening. To remedy this, we separate in the market to discover goodies to warm one another’s spirits.

The Gifts

Going my way, and she hers, It’s not far off before I discover a card that’s near perfect for the occasion. Two watercolor sea otters float on their backs holding paws above the caption Significant Otters. A shared affinity for the magic that are otters bags the handcrafted sentiment by Rosie Ferns Illustrations. Turning shoulder, a photograph of an omniscient eye of a buffalo has been beautifully sealed in resin to the face of 4x4 piece of pine ply. Little Kicking Bird is the name of the photographers etsy, but I make sure to snag a card for the added note to visit later.

Down the vendor line, I find simple gifts, a violet, orchid and sandalwood candle from Seattle Candle Company. A gamble because I know Lily is very particular about what scents she burns in the house, but the sandalwood convinces me of the pleasure it will bring her. Close by is Beecher’s Handmade Cheese; I can do no wrong buying her a wedge of apple and cherrywood smoked cheese. Sold! Finally, what I believe will be the winner of the bunch outside of the gorgeous bouquet of dried flowers, is the raw honey from Sunny Honey Company. What’s amazing about this sweet is the label specifying the specific type of flowers the bees harvested the pollen from to produce the honey. The jar I bought for this sweet gal came from a hive placed in the middle of a field of wildflowers. Amazing!

No knowing what she got for me. Maybe I’ll share that in the next post. For now, it’s all wine, coho salmon filet, fireplace vibes, Valerie June and dancing in the kitchen.

Adios for Now!
